Story

I am doing this event thanks to the enthousiasm of my adult children for distance running - both my daughters in particular.  As you may be aware my daughter Lizzie (Sarah Elizabeth W-S) went with Catwalk to NY some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was her that alerted me to this opportunity.

I started running in early 2015 when I was 61. I played rugby and did cross country until I was 17 but have only driven a desk in the intervening years. I have run a handful or so of events annually since then - mainly 1/2 marathons and trail runs and one actual marathon. I ran 4 hrs 14 at the Auckland marathon . My 1/2 marathon PB was at the recent round the bays in 1hr 47. I train 3 times per week and my current weekly average is about 45km.

I plan to do two more marathons this year in preparation for NY.

I was born and bred in Ireland and came to NZ as a medical practitioner with my wife Mary, who is also a medical practitioner in 1978 when I was 25. I retired from GP practice 2 years ago. We have 4 adult children and, at the last count, 8 grandchildren.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice.

Thanks so much for your support!
