Chantelle McGivern
Story
Hi everyone - my name is Chantelle McGivern and I feel exceptionally privileged to be part of the CatWalk team running the NYC Marathon and raising funds for such a fantastic charity.
There is some amazing work being done in the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) field and as this progresses, the future of spinal cord regeneration holds hope the impacts of paralysis would be significantly reduced or even eliminated.
Often we are daunted with the size of a problem, or our perceived ability to impact it, however hope is a beautiful thing and hope lies in science. While medical research isn't my gift, and I hold immense respect for the brilliant women and men who do it, and I know, I can run and I can raise money to help fund that research. You can have an impact because each donation helps us fund SCI research. Please help me by donating to CatWalk and continue that research - it can be life changing for so many.
In a previous life (pre-kids) I regularly raced in 1/2 marathons, Triathlons (Ironman & 70.3) and marathons, but since greeting my three awesome kids (6, 4 & 2yrs) into the world my athletic endeavours have taken a backseat somewhat to bike rides by the river, running around the playground and cycling in other charity events. However I'm thrilled to be back running again and I am grateful to my brother, fellow NYC runner & CatWalk team member Shaun McGivern for encouraging me to step up to the challenge of not only running one of my bucket list races but being able to contribute significantly to a great charity as well. It's a win on many levels!
Being physically active plays a huge part of our lives (my husband & I met swim training at the pool) and I'm keen to help others do so, regardless of their abilities. As a huge supporter of medical research I know how critical funding is to improving quality of life and treatment programs, enhancing drug development, refining surgical techniques and boosting support systems. Catwalk is a special charity full of people who really care and believe in making a difference.
The energy is contagious (even as I sit in Canada and run on our river paths with snow mounds beside me!) and I look forward to raising funds, running and recognizing the generous donations & support for CatWalk.
Thanks in advance for your generous support!
Cheers Chantelle
